Chateau Palmer

Château Palmer is a leading wine estate in Margaux and it’s considered the second most popular wine after its first growth neighbour, Chateau Margaux.
Palmer lies in the commune of Cantenac, just outside the village of Margaux. The vineyard is biodynamic certified since 2017 and its area extends 55 hectares, planted 47% with Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot.
The estate dates to the 17th century, though it was not until 1814 that Englishman Charles Palmer took ownership and gave it his name. In 1938, the estate was bought by four Bordeaux négociant families, two of whom – Sichel and Mähler-Besse – still own the property today.
Since 1998, Château Palmer has been producing a second label, Alter Ego de Palmer, selected from the same quality terroir but employing different wine-making techniques and different proportions of grapes, in order to produce an earlier-drinking wine. Alter Ego represents roughly 40% of the estate’s production.
