Paul Pernot
Domaine Paul Pernot was founded in 1959 from 10 hectares of land that had been in Paul’s family for almost 200 years. This included a small parcel of vines purchased by his great-grandfather, a négociant in Puligny.
Today the domaine has more than doubled in size, with 23 hectares currently under vine, 65% of which can be found in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet.
Domaine Paul Pernot is synonymous with Puligny-Montrachet. For the last 30 years, the estate – alongside Domaine Leflaive and Domaine de Montille (previously Château de Puligny-Montrachet) – has been one of the largest shareholders in the appellation, playing a significant role in maintaining its reputation for complex, expansive, mineral-tinged Chardonnay.
The domaine is unquestionably one of the top handful of growers based in Puligny. Their wines have exquisite delicacy and poise while remaining rich, ripe and with the structure to age.
The property sells over 60% of its production to négociants, saving only the cream of the crop for its own bottlings, which are Puligny-Montrachet at its very best.
Remaining very much a family affair, the vineyards and cellar are now largely managed by Paul’s two sons, Michel and Paul Jr, together with his grandson Philippe.
They maintain a traditional approach to winemaking with very little having changed at the domaine in the last four decades.
