Nervi-Conterno

The Wine Merchant Thailand
There are few names in Italian wine that command as much quiet respect as Roberto Conterno — heir to one of Piedmont’s most revered legacies, and guardian of the uncompromising purity that defines Giacomo Conterno.

When, in 2018, he chose to take the reins of Nervi, the oldest estate in Gattinara (founded in 1906), it wasn’t expansion — it was conviction. A belief that the cool, volcanic slopes of Alto Piemonte could speak of Nebbiolo with the same depth, clarity, and nobility as the Langhe.

Under his stewardship, Nervi Conterno has become a benchmark — not only for Gattinara, but for what disciplined viticulture and precision winemaking can achieve when guided by integrity. Every vine is tended with the same philosophy as at Monfortino: low yields, perfect ripeness, and an unbroken focus on balance.

In the cellar, patience rules — long macerations, gentle extraction, and maturation in large, neutral botti, allowing the vineyard to speak without interference.

The result is Nebbiolo reimagined — not softer, but more vertical; not lighter, but more detailed.

Where Barolo roars, Gattinara whispers — but under Roberto Conterno, that whisper carries the same authority. These are wines of discipline and transparency, defined not by opulence but by precision.

Every vintage affirms what Conterno himself has said: greatness is not a matter of concentration, but of proportion.

In Nervi Conterno, the philosophy of Monfortino meets the light of the North.

A perfect balance of intellect and emotion — and one of the most profound expressions of Nebbiolo made today.
